Being Mum

I don't know about you but for me one of the hardest parts of Motherhood has been the juggling. Juggling who I am (mum, Gemma, Mr Keepsake's partner, friend, teacher, business owner, crafter, expert, absolute novice etc etc), juggling my time, my focus, what is expected of me and my love.

However, sometimes something comes along and stops this juggling act in its tracks. My three Keepsakes needed me last week and there was no time for anything else. It wasn't pretty, glamorous, rose tinted or even thanked (at one point I had vomit in my hair and I was glad that it was mine and not one of the children's again as I could probably put off washing mine!). I was most definitely just 'being mum' and now it is over I am glad I was!

What moments have you had recently that made you stop and realise you are 'being mum'? Rather than letting all the moments of self doubt that can creep in, my advice is to take some time and realise 'Yes I can and I am doing this?'. I'd love to hear from you xx

I have had the pleasure of making this incredible Cotbed size Quilt over the last few weeks. I really do enjoy making each and every Keepsake but the Quilts are the ones i always feel a bit sad to say goodbye to.

I loved the bright and vibrant colours of all the clothes used in this quilt.
I cherish and truly appreciate all the reviews that I receive. This one was really special for me though. I met Isabella's mum at a recent baby show and was so sad to hear that she was unhappy with a Keepsake she'd had made somewhere else. I was therefore delighted to be able to take it apart and create a beautiful Lion (and a new Giraffe from some of Isabella's bigger clothes) and I am thrilled that she now loves to look at them and can remember all the lovely memories:
'Thank you for Isabella's Keepsakes they are truly amazing. You are incredibly talented. For those reading this review I have no hesitation in recommending Gemma to create your perfect Keepsake. I had a terrible experience with another keepsake company that completely destroyed (or so I thought) Isabella's first year clothes but Gemma managed to save the clothing and make a Keepsake I couldn't even have dreamt of :-) '

My Keepsakes

Half term was....umm...interesting. Mr Keepsake was away with work, I'd worked flat out in the days leading up to it so I could take a few days off to have some fun. It started well, the Keepsakes chose 'craft' as their activity of choice and once I overcame the issues with the mess that would no doubt entail I was most definitely on board. We had a quick trip round the local bargain shops and stocked up. Lots of mess, fun and laughter ensued. Sounds perfect right? Well little did I know that I should savour these moments as they were to be short lived.

Fast forward to day three and I am carrying a large, heavy, crying 9 year old out of the woods (he sprained his ankle). Things went progressively downhill, until all three had an incredibly violent sickness and diarrhea bug. Not pretty, not pleasant and pretty exhausting to be honest. In typical fashion everyone started to feel better approximately ten minutes before Daddy's plane landed back in the UK. I was back to work the following day and received this picture with everybody feeling 100% healthy, happy and having a lovely time in the woods! #beingmum

And Finally...

I am looking at having to increase my prices. It is something I have tried to resist but after another increase from my suppliers it has come to decision time. The aspect I love, and the aspect you seem to like too, is including as much detail and individuality as possible. The intricacy of this work obviously adds time to the process. As such I had to decide whether to increase cost or decrease the time spent on each Keepsake. When I design and create each individual Keepsake I always take into account that this is something that will be treasured forever, so I came to the conclusion that I just wouldn't feel comfortable sending out anything less than perfect, therefore changing the time wasn't an option.

I would like to give as much notice as possible, hence the reason I am letting you know now. A new pricing structure will therefore take affect as of Thursday the 9th of July (current prices will be honoured until then). I will keep the increase to the minimum possible and thank you all for your understanding, Gemma xxx
